We can group the data privacy and security concerns of test-takers into three categories:\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

Public disclosure of private details<\/b>\u2014An online proctoring service has several opportunities for capturing private information. For example, a 360-degree webcam scan of a test-taker\u2019s personal space is often one of the initial steps in online proctoring.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

While the scan ensures the space is free of test supports, it can also record many personal details a test-taker may not want to make public, such as socio-economic status, religious affiliation, political views, and so on.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

Does your service comply with international <\/b>data privacy <\/b>standards?<\/b><\/h3>\n

What private details of a test-taker are being recorded?<\/b><\/h3>\n

In addition to the 360-degree webcam scan discussed above, some online proctoring solutions record test-taker ID information and gather data about the computer in use, its settings, and its contents.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

Privacy is best protected when only a minimum amount of information is collected, stored, and shared.<\/span><\/p>\n

So ensure that you get specific information about what data your online proctoring service provider collects, stores, and shares, and for how long.<\/span><\/p>\n

What parties have access to test-taking data?<\/b><\/h3>\n

Several people can potentially have access to the test-taker\u2019s data:<\/span><\/p>\n
